ALL ABOUT ME!!!!

Name: Mrs. Rasko

Grade & Subject Taught: My name is Alison Rasko and I teach your children mathematics. This year I have the pleasure of teaching 6-8th grade. I have taught at Eagle Ridge since it opened in 2002.

Education Background:  I began my career in 1997 after graduating from Western Illinois University. I’ve since received my masters degree from St. Xavier University.

Why did you choose teaching as a career?  I had great experiences in elementary school which lead me to my decision to become a teacher very young. I had two very influential teachers in third and fourth grade who shaped my love of learning. Mrs. Lindskog was a very fun and loving teacher. She was always smiling and I could tell that she loved what she was doing. I felt special in her class. Mrs. McGraw nurtured my love of art and music. She always pushed me to do my best. She treated my like I was one of her own. It was these two teachers who inspired me to become a teacher and I thank them for all that they have given me.

My favorite vacation spot has become visiting Disney. I’ve been twice in the last two years and hope to visit again soon. Disney is a magical place. It’s hard to be in a bad mood when you are surrounded by such excitement.

My favorite book to read to my children when they were young was The Kissing Hand. It tells the story of a young raccoon going to school and how he’d miss his mama. His mother opens his hand and kisses it so he has a kiss from mama whenever he needs it.  I always enjoyed reading this book and always ended it kissing their hand and pressing it to their cheek just as the mama raccoon did with her baby.

One of my favorite quotes is, “it might be a crazy life, but it’s our life”. This quote sums up my life so far. My husband and I are the parents of five wonderful children between the ages of 17 and 5. When all five children are home its a crazy house. There is always something going on and there’s never a dull moment.

If I could invent something that would make peoples lives easier it would be a self grader for teachers. The hardest thing about being a teacher is keeping grades updated. If I had a robot that could grade papers and enter them into the computer, teaching would be so much easier.
